The art of music itself is oft thought to be inspired by birdsong. Our prehistoric forebears aspired to make sounds as melodious as the utterances of our feathered friends, thus music became a human endeavour. That thought crossed my mind whilst hiking on a newly ice-free nature trail near me, when my ears were struck with what initially sounded like a cacophony of duck calls. Except there were no ducks to speak of. Closer to the source, the sound turned out to be a chorus of he-frogs reciting wordless sonnets to their froggesses. Regardless, I got out my phone and recorded a small sample of the amphibian lovelorn serenade, for incorporation into this musical experiment.
